BOSS Conference

Four letters, one conversation

BOSS stands for Business, Organization, Strategy and Society. The name is a little cheeky on purpose. The research is not.

Why BOSS exists

Putting the corridor at the centre of the programme

Most conferences in our field follow the same script: a 15 to 20 minute talk, a couple of questions, a crowded coffee break, and a social programme you pay extra for.

The most valuable things that happen at a conference, honest feedback and new co-authors, usually happen by accident in the corridor. BOSS puts the ‘corridor’ at the centre of the programme.

The BOSS principles

Six principles

01

Discussion over delivery.

Short pitches, long conversations, and a discussant for every paper.

02

Developmental, not gatekeeping.

Reviews and session feedback are there to make papers better.

03

Small enough to meet everyone.

No more than 4 parallel rooms.

04

Everyone in the same room.

Editors, professors and doctoral students share sessions, tables and dance floors.

05

Rigour with a sense of humour.

We take the research seriously and ourselves a little less.

06

Rooted in place.

Thessaloniki’s food, history and waterfront are part of the programme, not a backdrop.

Who should come

From doctoral students to full professors

Researchers in marketing and consumer behaviour, management and strategy, HRM and organisation studies, international business, innovation, entrepreneurship and family business, tourism, finance and accounting, economics and business and society.

Practitioners with a research interest are very welcome.
